A young Bartica resident is in custody this morning and is likely to face a murder charge following the shooting death of a 21-year-old miner from the same Bartica community.
The murder took place yesterday morning according to the Police report.
The Police in its statement said, 21 year old Antonio Dos Santos was at an entertainment bar on First Avenue, Bartica when he was approached by the suspect and shot twice to the chest. The suspect fled the scene, while the injured young man was rushed to the Bartica Hospital. Efforts were being made to have him medivaced to Georgetown when he died.
The suspect was identified by a number of persons who were at the bar at the time, and he was handed over to the Police late yesterday afternoon by his mother. It is unclear what triggered the shooting. The suspect remains in custody.
