Belizian soldier working in Guyana robbed and shot multiple times

A Belizian soldier who has been working in Guyana as an Orthopedic technician was shot multiple times to his body on Monday night during a robbery as he was walking back to Guyana Defence Force headquarters.

Crime Chief Leslie James told News Source that an investigation is underway into the matter. He said the soldier’s condition has been listed as serious but stable.

Reports state that the young man had just followed a close friend to take a taxi home and was on his way back to his  base when he was held up by a single gunman. The gunman demanded money and other belongings but the solider refused and the two reportedly got into a scuffle during which the gunman opened fire and hit the soldier four times to his body.

He was spotted by a passerby and taken to the hospital.

Armed robberies in Guyana continue to rise. This year the police force has already recorded over 600 cases of armed robberies.
