Two men in their late teens were on Wednesday charged and remanded to prison for the robbery and murder of a Berbice businessman and his wife.

19-year-old, Nazamadeen Raffick aka Shazam of Bush Lot, West Coast Berbice and 18-year-old Gokun Paul aka Clown of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice appeared in the FortWellington Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver.

They were not required to plea to the indictable charge of murder.

The two accused were unrepresented in Court.

They will make their next court appearance on February 3, 2015. The couple, 81-year-old Arthur Rajkumar and Dianne Chamanlall were badly chopped about their bodies during a home invasion and robbery at the weekend.

They were both rushed to the hospital where doctors pronounced the elderly man dead on arrival while his wife died while undergoing surgery.

According to the Police, it was just after 3:00 am on Saturday that they first received a call about the robbery. Ranks hurried to the scene but as they approached, three men were spotted scaling the fence. The Police gave chase but the men managed to escape.

The arrests were made later that day.
