Berbice man commits suicide after stabbing ex wife and brother and setting house ablaze

According to police reports, 48-year-old Nandlall Ragnauth, went to the home of his reputed wife’s mother at No. 7 Village, West Coast Berbice, where he broke into the home and attacked his reputed wife with a knife.

A Cane Cutter on Sunday night launched a bloody attack on his reputed wife and her relatives before setting the family property on fire and taking his own life.

According to police reports, 48-year-old Nandlall Ragnauth, went to the home of his reputed wife’s mother at No. 7 Village, West Coast Berbice, where he broke into the home and attacked his reputed wife with a knife.

The injured woman has been identified as 28-year-old Hushmanie Rasheed. She sustained several stab wounds about the body.

The incident which occurred at about 9pm ended with Rasheed’s brother, Devanand Tuldas and a friend, Bharat Narine being stabbed to their bodies.

The angry Ragnauth then set the house on fire, and was later found hanging from a tree in the yard where the same house was located.

The reason(s) behind the man’s attack was not disclosed. The injured woman and a family friend were treated at the Fort Wellington Hospital, while her brother, Devanand Tuldas has been admitted to the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Investigations are in progress.
