Bond drops out and offers full support for Christopher Jones in PNC Vice Chair race

As the race for top positions in the Peoples’ National Congress heats up, Party Executive, James Bond has declined to accept a nomination for the post of Vice Chair and has instead chosen to nominate Christopher Jones for the position. Jones is also an Executive of the party and serves the Government as the Director of Sport.

In a Facebook post today, Bond said that at this juncture, he has to decline the nomination.

“My friends and family both within and without the PNCR I thank you for your support in nominating me for Vice Chairperson of the PNCR. However, I have to decline at this juncture,” he wrote.

Mr. Bond, who is an Attorney, shared that before the announcement of PNC’s Congress, he had proposed to Jones that he (Jones) should run for the position of Vice Chair. He further stated that he committed to managing Jones’ campaign as Jones had done for him in 2016.

Additional support for Jones will also come from the team supporting Volda Lawrence for Chairperson of the party, Bond said.

“Team VAL [Volda Ann Lawrence] is fully behind Mr. Jones and we are prepared to work together for the greater good of the PNCR” he said.

Lawrence is running against current Chair of the party, Basil Williams, and party stalwart, Joseph Harmon for the Chairmanship post.

Meanwhile, Bond said that Jones confirmed that he will be accepting the nomination, which means he will be running against Annette Ferguson and several other party members.

Jones previously served as the Chairman of the Guyana Youth and Student Movement (GYSM) – the youth arm of the PNC – before becoming a Member of Parliament.

After the APNU+AFC won the General Elections in 2015, Jones was appointed Director of Sport and continues to serve in that position.

The PNC 20th Biennial Delegates Congress is schedule for August 17-19, 2018.
