Brazilian woman dies in Mazaruni River boat collision
A 31-year-old Brazilian woman died on Friday midday when the boat she was traveling in, collided with another boat in the Mazaruni River. The dead woman has been identified as Jifele Brasilaira Vierra De Sales- Lie Akigia.
According to a Police report, the accident occurred just before 1 o’ clock on Friday afternoon at Albouys in the Mazaruni river.
The report said investigations have so far revealed that the boats, captained by 58-year-old Eugene Charles, 58 years of Parika and 19-year-old Clifton Melville, of  Fifth Avenue, Bartica, were proceeding along the Mazaruni River with passengers when they collided, causing , the Brazilian national to fall overboard.
The woman disappeared under the coffee brown water but a search and rescue mission was activated immediately and her body was found two hours after. She was rushed to the Bartica Hospital where doctors pronounced her dead.
An investigation has been launched into the accident and the two boat captains are assisting with the probe.
