Crime Chief Wendel Blanhum has confirmed that thirteen prisoners have escaped from the Lusignan Prison. Already the Joint Services have been bogged down in a manhunt for the remaining four prisoners who escaped from the Camp Street jail three weeks ago.
Mr. Blanhum told News Source that he was informed of the escape by the Prison Authorities, but he could not offer details on the time of the escape. It is suspected that the latest escape may have taken place either late last night or early this morning.
Usually reliable sources in the Guyana Police Force have identified the thirteen escapees as:

- Tishan McKenzie
- Winston Long
- Kerry Cromwell
- Pascal Smith
- Odel Roberts
- Kendell Skeet
- Paul Goriah
- Jamal Forde
- Jamal Joseph
- Rayon Jones
- Jason Howard
- Shawn Harris
A number of the prisoners in this latest group of escapees were in custody for murder and robbery under arms cases.
The Department of Public Information has announced that the Prison Director and other Security Officials will brief the media later this morning. The Department of Public Information has also announced that a massive manhunt has started as investigations into how the men may have escaped with out notice, takes place simultaneously.
The public is being advised to take all necessary precautions and report all suspicious activities to the nearest police station or outpost.
Members of the public are also being asked to avoid the lower East Coast Demerara backlands until further notice and to remain calm but vigilant. Persons are also being encouraged to report any suspicious activities or persons that may be in their communities.
The Lusignan Prison was being used to house hundreds of additional prisoners who were moved from the Camp Street jail following that fire that destroyed most of that facility and facilitated a jail break three weeks ago.
