Hours after the Minister of Public Health revealed that there were eight persons in the special COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, one of the persons who was in a critical state succumbed to the respiratory disease.

He has been identified by close friends as local drag-racer Deryc Jaisingh aka “Mad Dog”. He was well known at the South Dakota circuit as a champion drag racer and also worked in the mining industry.

A number of his family members are currently in quarantine.

News Source understands that he was recovering well up to a few days ago when his condition worsened and he was taken to the Coronavirus ICU at the Georgetown Hospital.

He passed away this evening as doctors battled to save his life.

This afternoon, Public Health Minister Volda Lawrence announced that Guyana had recorded 31 confirmed cases of the coronavirus with seven of those cases being confirmed over the past two days.

In the past week, Guyana has seen 23 new cases of the virus being confirmed.

It was also reported that 115 persons in total were tested for the virus since testing started in Guyana just over a month ago.

Guyana’s first confirmed case of the coronavirus was recorded on the 11th March. Three of the relatives of that first case who also tested positive have since tested negative for the virus after undergoing isolation.
