BREAKING: Over 175 lbs cocaine busted in frozen fish at Cheddi Jagan Airport; WCD man arrested

A West Coast Demerara man is in police custody after another major drug bust at Guyana’s Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

Agents of the Police Narcotics Branch on Tuesday evening (August 9), seized over 175 pounds of cocaine in a large quantity of frozen fish and shrimp that was about to be shipped to New York.

The bust was made just as the cocaine laden fish shipment was being processed through a local air cargo service.

Several long pellet like shaped packets of the cocaine were discovered in a number of the frozen fish. The packets were tightly wrapped in white tape and plastic and placed just above the backbone of the fish.

News Source understands that the Police Narcotics agents may have been tracing the shipment through intelligence gathering and information received.

The name of the suspect has not been released.  He was arrested at the Cheddi Jagan Airport as he overlooked the preparation of the drug cargo for shipment.

Other suspects are being sought.

Local drug enforcement agents have been making several major dents in the drug trade over the past year.

Exactly two months ago, a similar cocaine in fish shipment was also busted at the Cheddi Jagan Airport.

That shipment was also linked to the West Coast of Demerara.

Three West Coast Demerara residents (including two relatives), are currently before the Courts after being charged for the over 40 pounds of cocaine that was busted then.

That operation was also carried out by the Narcotics Branch of the Police Force.
