The Fire which gutted the Brickdam Police Station on Saturday destroyed thousands of important records and equipment belonging to the Police Force. The work of several departments of the Force’s largest Police Division has also been hampered.

In a statement, the Police Force has announced that its Brickdam operations will now be shifted to the nearby St. Stanislaus College temporarily.

According to the Police, all of the Police services that were offered at the Brickdam Police station will now be offered at the Saints location. Those services include criminal investigations, 911, traffic and certifying office.

Up to late on Saturday night, Police officers remained on duty going through the records they managed to save.

The government called a number of meetings yesterday in wake of the fire and has started to put plans in place to assist with the relocation of the Brickdam police station and the immediate needs of the ranks.

The immediate areas surrounding the station along Brickdam will continue to be closed off to traffic.

A cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but it was first spotted in the upper flat of one of the old wooden buildings in the compound. It quickly spread to the other wooden buildings as the fire service battled to contain the blaze.

The station was built in the late 1800’s and first served as a site for the Georgetown Prisons before the prison was relocated and it was changed over to a Police station.
