Brother remanded, Sister gets bail on weapons and marijuana possession charges

At the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court this morning, two siblings found themselves side by side facing possession of gun, ammunition and marijuana charges.

32-year-old Sophia resident, Abendigo Bancroft and his sister Chavel Bancroft were jointly charged after being busted with a 9 MM Pistol, three live matching rounds and 12 grammes of Marijuana.

The discovery was made a week ago at the Sophia home of the siblings during a Police search. The marijuana was found stashed in a black plastic bag, while the gun and ammunition were found hidden in a clothes basket.

Attorney Dexter Todd represented the siblings and made a successful bail application for the sister, Chavel  Bancroft. He told the court that the young woman was only charged because she was an occupant of the home at the time when the illegal items were found.

The woman was granted bail on all three charges, totaling $225,000.

The brother was refused bail on the gun and ammunition possession charges and was immediately remanded to Prison. The two siblings will make their next court April 12th 2017.
