Businessman and drug fugitive Ghalee Khan surrenders to US Agents at JFK

One day he was serving as a local observer for the elections representing the Private Sector Commission, and the next day he was in handcuffs being taken off an American Airlines flight in New York after striking a deal over pending drug trafficking charges.

Businessman Ghalee Khan who is a partner in a local security company was arrested at New York’s JFK Airport after arriving there on a direct flight from Guyana earlier today.

When the plane landed early this morning, passengers said they were told to remain on board and in their seats as U.S Agents came onboard to make the arrest.

Khan was arrested and charged in Brooklyn in 2008 for allegedly being part of a cocaine drop-off along with another Guyanese man.

He was granted bail but escaped to Guyana and never returned to the US to face his trial. An arrest warrant was issued for him since 2008.

In 2009, Khan faced drug trafficking charges in Guyana.

Over the past 12 years, Khan restarted his life in Guyana and grooved in with the Guyana private sector.

He got involved in event promotions before becoming a partner in the Integrated Security company.

While being on the run from US Authorities, Ghalee Khan was in charge of a security company in Guyana and serving as Public Relations Officer and later the Secretary of the Guyana Association of Private Security Organisations.

He was one of the observers for the Private Sector Commission at last Monday’s elections. Khan was seen mingling with other local and foreign observers at the GECOM Command Centre and his security company even provided a metal scanning machine to be placed at the entrance for the GECOM office.

News Source understands that he recently made the decision to turn himself into US Agents after his lawyers worked out a possible plea deal that also reportedly involved the local embassy. Under the deal, he is likely to plead guilty to the drug trafficking and other charges for a reduced sentence.

Khan is expected in a New York Court as early as Tuesday.
