The City businessman who was nabbed last week with a quantity of marijuana, a large sum of cash, and suspected uncustomed liquor at his East Street, Georgetown home has been charged and remanded to jail for marijuana trafficking.

Businessman, Nicholas Samaroo appeared in Court on Monday and was charged with allegedly trafficking just over two kilograms of marijuana.

The illegal drug was reportedly found in a cooler in the man’s home which he shares with other relatives.

The man’s Attorney Dexter Todd told the Court that the marijuana was found in a section of the house where the businessman does not reside, explaining that the bottom flat of the house is rented.

After listening to the Prosecution’s charge sheet, the Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus remanded Samaroo to jail until the 1st April when the matter comes up again.

In its initial report on the bust, the Guyana Police Force said it went to the businessman’s house after obtaining a warrant. During the search, a large quantity of local and foreign currency was found as well as several bottles of uncustomed liquor and a quantity of marijuana.

the businessman has declared his innocence of the charge.
