Cards Game ends in murder for young miner

A game of cards ended in the murder of a Linden miner in the Quarterstone Backdam in the Cuyuni river area.

Police investigators have arrested the suspect who works as a security guard for the same company as the miner.

The dead man has been identified as 28-year-old Raymond Leitch, who is originally from the town of Linden.

A Police report stated that Leitch and the suspect were involved in a cards game known as a “Chance” and the two got into an argument over one of the games.

During the argument, it is alleged that the security guard pulled out his company-issued firearm and shot the miner to the upper left side of his chest. The injured man collapsed and died while the suspect was arrested.

Investigating officers have confiscated the weapon and the suspect is cooperating with the investigators.

He is likely to face a murder charge within days.
