Barbados’ Prime Minister and CARICOM Chairman Mia Mottley announced this afternoon that she will be leading a delegation of regional leaders to Guyana tomorrow as the country awaits a Supreme Court ruling on the verification of votes for Region 4.

Mottley made the announcement this afternoon during a national address from the Hilton Barbados.

Last week, the Prime Minister spoke to President David Granger and Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo and told them both that CARICOM stands ready to assist.

Guyana held regional and national elections last Monday, but no winner has been declared.

The matter is tied up in a Guyana High Court after an injunction was filed by a supporter of the main opposition People’s  Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) to block the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) from declaring results.

Should the declared results from the disputed Region 4 stand, the ruling coalition A Partnership for National Unity plus the Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) would secure another term in office.

The opposition People’s Progressive Party has indicated that its statements of polls point to it security a victory at the polls. The party has accused the Elections Commission of working along with the APNU+AFC coalition to carry out alleged fraud.

President David Granger has dismissed the PPP’s allegations and said the party has continued to spread a falsification of reality.
