CARICOM Mission completes one-day meeting in Haiti

A CARICOM special mission to Haiti has wrapped up its meeting as CARICOM seeks to do more to address the current political and economic crisis in its member state.

On Monday, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness led the CARICOM team to Haiti.

While there, he met with the interim Prime Minister of Haiti, Dr. Ariel Henry, the Director General of the Haitian National Police and with a variety of stakeholders including representatives of the High Transition Council, Political Accords, Political Parties, Civil Society, Religious Groups, and the Private Sector.

CARICOM said the Mission was the first opportunity for CARICOM officials to observe the situation on the ground and directly engage stakeholders in the ongoing search for a solution.

At the last CARICOM Meeting, leaders comitted themselves to doing more in finding a solution to the Haitian crisis.

The Canadian Prime Minister was engaged on the issue and Canada has pledged to providing additional personnel and support to benefit the people of Haiti, who have found themselves cornered in the ongoing gang violence taking place in the country.
