Chamber of Commerce wants MPs who disrupted Parliamentary sitting to be “dealt with condignly”

Describing the protests by the Opposition inside the National Assembly yesterday as “hooliganism”, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry has issued a call for those Members who disrupted the parliamentary sitting to be “dealt with condignly”.

In a statement, the GCCI condemned the Opposition’s protest and the behaviour of some Opposition Members of Parliament during that protest.

“The GCCI calls on the Honourable Speaker of the National Assembly to ensure that those responsible for the breakdown of order be dealt with condignly and with great alacrity”, the GCCI said.

The Chamber which wanted the passage of the controversial Natural Resources Fund Bill to be delayed to allow more public input said it is still supportive of the piece of legislation that it believes has the potential to bolster benefits to the Guyanese people.

The Chamber of Commerce which is headed by businessman, Timothy Tucker, said the grabbing of the Mace and the protests during the sitting were disrespectful to the Speaker.

According to the Chamber of Commerce, that type of behaviour has no place in a modern society where civil discourse and debate ought to be the underpinnings of the dialectical process which obtains in Parliament.
