A Chief Prison Officer became the country’s latest road fatality this morning after being involved in a smash-up on Homestretch Avenue.

Dead is 38-year-old Prince Cox of Nabaclis, East Coast Demerara.

According to a Police statement, Chief Prison Officer Cox was a passenger in the car being driven by a prison officer when the accident occurred.

The car with the prison officers reportedly overtook several vehicles along the roadway and slammed into an SUV that was being driven in the opposite direction.

The impact of the accident resulted in the occupants of both vehicles receiving several injuries about their bodies. They were taken to the Georgetown Hospital, where Chief Prison Officer Cox was declared dead on arrival and the other persons admitted with serious injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
