City Constable remanded to jail for alleged rape of 15-year-old boy in City lock-ups

Former City Constabulary rank, Clifton Pellew was today remanded to prison over the rape of a 15-year-old boy.

He appeared in Court today before the Chief Magistrate, more than five months after the alleged incident took place at the City Constabulary’s lock-ups.

In Court today, Pellew appeared before the Chief Magistrate with a smile on his face, but that soon became a frown as she remanded him to jail until later this month.

The Prosecution’s case is that he allegedly raped the 15-year-old boy in the lock-ups after the youth was taken there and placed in custody for wandering.

It is alleged that another City Constable caught him in the act, but never reported what he had seen until the following day.

As the probe prolonged for several weeks, he was dismissed by the City Constabulary as the case was sent to the Police and then the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

The matter will continue on February 14, 2018.
