The Georgetown City Council and the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), have inked a Memorandum of Understanding that will see the two bodies working closer together in the interest of the City of Georgetown.

The MoU was signed this morning by Georgetown Mayor Ubraj Narine and President of the GCCI, Nicolas Boyer.

Under the MoU, the two sides have agreed to work in the areas of Public security within the City, Building codes and Building Laws, Infrastructural Development, Public education and Awareness, Training and Capacity Building and Environmental health matters including garbage disposal.

Mayor Narine said the signing of the MoU is historic, since he believes it allows the City Council and the City’s business community to work together to realise improvements that will be to the benefit of both sides.

“This is how I believe Georgetown is going to move forward”, theMayor said, as he noted that the benefits of the MoU will be for all of the citizens of Georgetown.

The GCCI President, Nicolas Boyer said the Chamber is “very proud” to be part of the process of improving the City of Georgetown and working along with the City Council in that regard.

He said the Chamber of Commerce has an interest in seeing the betterment of the City of Georgetown and the Chamber will continue to be supportive of the City Council’s efforts.

A few weeks ago, the City Council and the Chamber clashed over the Mayor’s calling out of the business community for not paying up their taxes. Since then, both the Private Sector Commission and the Chamber of Commerce have reached out to the City Council.
