City Hall further delays vote on parking meter project
The Georgetown Mayor and City Council has further delayed the vote on the parking meter project.
At a statutory meeting this afternoon, the Council agreed to discuss the fate of the parking meter project during a special session on September 7th.
The move, which in effect delays the vote, comes as brightly coloured posters supporting paid parking have been plastered around City Hall.
Mayor Patricia Chase Green made the announcement while delivering remarks during the start of Monday’s meeting. Although several Councillors were absent, the decision to discuss the matter on September 7th was not opposed by any of those who were present.
Chase – Green said the meeting will take place at 2pm and she called for the full participation of all Councillors.
“I selected this date because I want to give Councillors a long time to clear their calendars and be available,” she said.
During the last meeting of the Council the vote by Councillors was deferred.

The Mayor said then that the intention is to ensure the report is placed in the public domain and for Councilors to have enough time to vote with a clear conscience.

The negotiating team, headed by Councillor Malcolm Ferreira has provided various options to the council and among the recommendations in its report are:
1 – Continue the metered parking with Smart City Solutions2- Discontinue the metered parking with Smart City Solutions

3 – Continue metered parking in accordance with the law

4 – Continue the metered parking independently

5 – or await the outcome of a pending court proceeding on the subject matter
