Clerical Assistant and Election Clerk charged and granted bail over alleged fraud related to input of election figures

A Clerical Assistant and an Election Clerk attached to the Guyana Elections Commission have been charged with fraud related to the 2020 elections. The two charges were separate and related to two different incidents.

In the case of the Clerical Assistant, Enrique Livan, he is facing a charge of unlawfully altering the figures from the statements of poll to defraud the state of Guyana.

It is alleged that between the 4th and 5th March at the office of the Returning Officer, Livan allegedly changed the figures from the Statements of Poll as he was inputing those figures into the tabulation system.

He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge and was granted bail in the sum of $150,000.

In the other case, Election Clerk Sheffern February is accused of not using figures from the Statements of Poll as she inputted those figures into the tabulation system during that tabulation process on the 13th March at the GECOM Headquarters on High Street.

She is facing two fraud charges, one for the general election and the other for the regional election.

Ms. February was also not required to enter a plea to the indictable charges and was granted bail in the sum of $150,000 on each charge.

Both Livan and February have been ordered to lodge their passports and keep away from witnesses in the case. They will both make their next appearance on the 25th September.

The charges against the two are all related to allegations of fraud in the 2020 elections.

The Guyana Police Force launched a wide-ranging investigation into the allegations last week on the direction of the Director of Public Prosecutions after that officer took over a private criminal case that had been filed against the Chief Returning Officer.
