Passengers who have been facing difficulty in accessing their reimbursements from Fly Jamaica Airways could contact the Competition and Consumers Affairs Commission.

Last week, officials of Fly Jamaica met with representatives of the Consumers Affairs Commission and an undertaking was given by the airline that refunds for passengers will be processed by the 1st July 2019.

Fly Jamaica halted operations back in November following the crash of its 757 aircraft at the Cheddi Jagan Airport just after an emergency landing.

While many passengers have been repeatedly reaching out to the company for their refunds, the company has been relatively quiet on the issue, only promising that all refunds would be made.G

The Consumer Affairs Commission has received 46 complaints from affected passengers. The money owed on those complaints add up to more than $8 million.

The Commission said that following its discussions, Fly Jamaica has committed to work with the Commission to process refunds for consumers by July 1, 2019.

Fly Jamaica CEO, Captain Paul Reece expressed his regret at the situation and said he looks forward to bringing closure to the matter, stating that, “refunds to consumers is at the top of the company’s agenda”.

The Consumer Affairs Commission said it remains committed to ensuring the consumers are kept abreast with the developments as it relates to their refunds.
