Reflecting on its 2022 operations, The Competition and Consumer Affairs Commission (CCAC) has announced that it was able to successfully resolve 87% of the 410 complaints that was made to the agency last year.

The remaining complaints are still under investigation.

The resolved complaints were valued at more than $107 million.

In a statement, the Consumer Rights agency said electronics and electronic appliances and services along with the auto industry continued to dominate the categories of complaints.

The auto industry accounted for the highest value of complaints to the value of $165.9 million

Region 4 generated the highest number of complaints followed by Region 3 then Region 10.

The Commission said over 1000 business inspections were conducted in eight of the ten administrative regions for compliance with the Consumer Affairs Act.

Three hundred and ninety-seven of the businesses inspected were in conformance. At the same time, the other 608 were made aware of their duties under the Consumers Affairs Act and were given the opportunity to bring their operations into conformance.

In an effort to further increase compliance, the Commission said it has also translated the Excerpt of the Consumer Affairs Act 2011 to Mandarin and that document was handed over to the Chinese Association last December.

Several Chinese businesses have sprung up across the country in recent years and consumer rights complaints have been filed many of them for various issues.

The Commission has indicated that it plans to continue its public relations campaign this year to raise more awareness about the Act and get more businesses to follow the law.
