Following complaints by residents and  a recent publication by News Source about a section of roadway of the Burma Access Road in Mahaicony, which has been falling apart, months after it was built, the Ministry of Public works has announced that that the contractor who executed the work will now do remedial work there.

In a release the Ministry said it engaged the contractor, Premium Asphalt, through the competitive bidding process for the rehabilitation of a section of the Burma Access Road, Mahaicony.

The road works which commenced in April last year were completed in August.

The Ministry said  the road works comprised placement and compaction of white sand/ sand clay in sections where bulging of the roadway had existed; placement and compaction of 200mm thick crushed aggregates and 50 mm asphaltic concrete surface, along with the construction of the road shoulders and marking of the finished asphaltic road surface.

The road works, inclusive of paving were substantially completed in August with overall completion of the project in November last year, the delay was due to weather the Ministry said.

With the the project’s Defects Liability coming to an end at the end of this year the Ministry has since engaged the contractor on correcting the existing defects which is scheduled to start on Saturday.
