Police in Berbice are investigating the shooting death of a Corentyne businessman who was killed in Port Mourant shop on Sunday evening.
According to a police statement, the incident took place just after 7:30 last evening as 41-year-ild Rampersaud Shivcharran was in his shop. Two men who were both armed with handguns entered the premises and demanded money from the businessman.
The businessman put up a fight during the robbery and was shot to the chest by one of the bandits. The two men made their escape leaving the bloodied businessman lying on the floor.
He was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Just last week, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan visited the Berbice area to address the crime problem. He has promised more resources to police in the area to tackle the problem.
