Corentyne businessman shot while trying to wrestle gun away from robber

As the armed robber whipped out his firearm and demanded money, the businessman grabbed his arm and attempted to wrestle the gun away from him. During the battle for the firearm, the gun went off. The businessman was shot to the head and abdomen, forcing the robbers to run from the scene empty-handed.

A 47-year-old businessman from Rose Hall, Corentyne, is waking up in hospital this morning after undergoing surgery for two gunshot wounds that he sustained while trying to fight off a robber.

According to a Police statement, on Saturday afternoon, two robbers entered the man’s business place and attempted to rob him. One was dressed like a woman while the other brandished a firearm.

As the armed robber whipped out his firearm and demanded money, the businessman grabbed his arm and attempted to wrestle the gun away from him. During the battle for the firearm, the gun went off. The businessman was shot to the head and abdomen, forcing the robbers to run from the scene empty-handed.

The businessman was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and is recovering well.   A search is on for the two suspects.
