Coronavirus cases in Guyana increase by 1

During the daily update, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shamdeo Persaud also stated that the total number of recoveries has increased to 35. There are now 49 active coronavirus cases in the country. While Georgetown remains the epicentre for the pandemic locally, positive cases have also been turning up from villages on the outskirts of the city.

With a total of 49 new COVID-19 tests completed in the past 24hrs, there is only one new case of the coronavirus in Guyana.

It was also revealed today that Guyana has conducted a total of 785 coronavirus tests, with 692 of those tests turning up as negative.

During the daily update, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Shamdeo Persaud also stated that the total number of recoveries has increased to 35. There are now 49 active coronavirus cases in the country. While Georgetown remains the epicentre for the pandemic locally, positive cases have also been turning up from villages on the outskirts of the city.

“In the report we have been mentioning that Region 4 has the highest number of confirmed cases and today I wish to indicate the areas on the East Coast and East Bank of Demerara where cases have been identified. On the East Coast, positive cases were reported in Atlantic Gardens, Friendship, Golden Grove, Good Hope, Lusignan, Plaisance, Strathsphey. And on the East Bank, Diamond, Grove, Land of Canaan, Providence and Timehri”, Dr. Persaud stated.  

And with Mother’s Day being celebrated on Sunday, the Chief Medical Officer made it clear that the public health advisories should still be respected even as children celebrate the day with their mothers.

Dr. Persaud said “advisories must still be respected. You are reminded that there may be persons infected with the disease but showing no symptoms. These persons are considered to be asymptomatic carriers and can pose a threat to anyone they may encounter. So, celebrate with mom but with caution. You wouldn’t want to put her health in jeopardy”.

Guyana has recorded a total of 94 cases of the coronavirus. The first case was recorded on the 11th March.
