Amid concerns about persons who tested positive for COVID-19 and told to isolate at home breaching those orders, Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony today warned that those persons could face charges for breaching the stay home order.
With over 3000 active COVID-19 cases told to isolate at home until recovery, there is growing concern that many of the persons have not been following the Doctor’s order.
“Under the order, we have specified that if you are not obeying these rules then you can be prosecuted,” Dr. Anthony made clear.
The Health Minister contended that positive patients being out in the public can make an already bad situation, even more worse. He urged positive patients in home isolation to act responsibly.
“Some people observe it in a very strict manner, others don’t and that, if they are not observing it then we can easily have more spread. If people are irresponsible and don’t abide by the rules, then we will have an increase in the spread”, Anthony said.
The Health Minister said a person is considered discharged from home isolation after 10 days of being tested for the virus and remaining without symptoms.
“We also do have institutional isolation, and, in some regions, people prefer to come into those institutions and if that is their preference then we provide that service for them,” the Minister noted.
The Minister of Health also issued a warning to persons who may be experiencing symptoms of the virus but refuse to get tested. He said waiting it out could be problematic in the long run if symptoms do eventually show up.
“The problem is they are going to infect a lot of other people around them, and that is why it is essential that they come forward and get tested so that we can isolate them”, the Health Minister said.
The number of Coronavirus cases in Guyana has been growing steadily with over 4000 new cases recorded so far for this month.
