“Cross-eye” remanded for murder of ex-girlfriend’s new lover

After being on the run from Law Enforcement for almost two weeks, the Linden man who stabbed the new lover of his ex-girlfriend to death has been arrested and charged for the murder.

32-year-old Corwyn Arthur aka Cross-Eye,  of Amelia’s Ward Linden, appeared at the Linden Magistrates’ Court this morning and was remanded to jail. He was not required to enter a plea to the indictable murder charge.

The case will come up again on June 21.

The Court heard that in the wee hours of May 10, 2018, Arthur gained access to the home of his ex-girlfriend through a window and got into a fight with her current boyfriend, Claude DeJounge.

He repeatedly stabbed the man to the body and bolted from the scene as the woman raised an alarm.  He was found hiding out in Berbice last Thursday and was immediately arrested and transferred to the City.

The woman, Tanya Samuels, had broken up with Arthur since early 2017 as he faced a charge of engaging in sexual activity with a girl below the age of sixteen. He is currently facing a High Court trial on that charge.

The woman had complained about being stalked and threatened by the man, especially after she met the man, who would later become her new boyfriend.

Although she had ended her relationship with Arthur, the two maintained a friendship which turned sour when her new boyfriend moved into her Amelia’s Ward house.
