Cyclist sentenced to three years in jail and fined $873,000 for cocaine in underwear and stomach

The Cummings Street, Georgetown resident made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates' Court and pleaded guilty to the drug trafficking charges.

Twenty-six-year old Kwame Cumberbatch, who described himself as a local cyclist, was on Tuesday sentenced to three years in jail and fined $873,000 on a conviction of Trafficking Narcotics.

The Cummings Street, Georgetown resident  made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The man was busted with cocaine amounting to 194 grams.

It is reported that on January 28, 2016, at around 5:30am , Cumberbatch was an outgoing passenger on a Liat flight destined for Barbados.

A routine search was carried on him and officers found 46 pellet parcels of cocaine concealed in his underwear. He told the ranks conducting the search that he swallowed 7 additional pellets. When taken to the GPHC, he excreted 16  pellets.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.
