After an eight year investigation, the Guyana Police Force on Tuesday charged the 52-year-old daughter and the 28-year-old alleged hitman for the murder of 76-year-old Essequibo businessman, Habiboodean.

The daughter, Nazeela Habiboodean and the man, she allegedly hired to murder her father, Linden Lewis, appeared at the Leonora Magistrates’ Court and were both remanded to prison after the indictable murder charge was read to them.

businessmanThe Prosecution’s case is that the woman hired the then 20-year-old man on February 15, 2008 to beat her father to death during a staged home invasion.

The elderly man operated a gas station in the Ruby area on the East Bank of Essequibo and his murder shocked the close-knit community.

Sources close to the investigations have revealed that the daughter has implicated other persons in the planning of the murder.

She was arrested after the hitman was held in connection with the recent Good Hope double murder of a farmer and his wife, and he confessed to the 2008 murder of the Essequibo businessman, offering more details of the crime.
