DJ Cheddie gunned down; suspect in custody

Tucville resident, 36-year-old Sheldon Cheddie aka DJ Cheddie was gunned down close to his Tucville home on Monday night leaving the South Georgetown community in shock. The man was shot multiple times to the body and was pronounced dead after he was rushed to the Georgetown Hospital.

Police sources have confirmed that a suspect is in the hospital under police guard nursing a number of injures to his head and body. The suspect, according to eyewitnesses was chased down by the driver of a motor car and other persons just after the incident and beaten before being handed over to the police.

Relatives of Sheldon Cheddie who would have celebrated his 37th birthday this month are shocked by the murder. His father, Keith Cheddie told News Source that he was in his East Ruimveldt home when he received a call that his son had been shot. The elderly man said he hurried to the Georgetown hospital where doctors confirmed the family’s worst fears.

The elder Cheddie said he does not know of any problem his son would have had with anyone. He said he worked for a number of years as a disc jockey (dj) with a local music system but left that career behind a few years back and started to work in the interior. The man said he was not sure what job his son was doing over the past few months.

Scores of persons rushed out to the scene of the incident just after the shooting. Police investigators were at the scene looking for spent shells and any other evidence from the execution type killing.

The man has left to mourn his reputed wife and five children, his parents, siblings and other relatives and friends.
