DPP requests Court documents in dismissal of charges against accused in Isaiah Henry murder case

The Director of Public Prosecutions has requested Court documents from Magistrate Peter Hugh after he dismissed the charges filed against two of the three suspects in the murder of Berbice teen, Isaiah Henry.

Hours after the Magistrate’s decision today, DPP Shalimar Ali-Hack made her request for the Court documents.

The DPP said the request will be used to ascertain the next steps for the DPP in the matter since the Office of the DPP maintains that there was sufficient evidence against the two men at the time the charge was instituted.

In discharging the matter this morning, the Magistrate ruled that there was no substantial evidence linking the two accused Vinod Gopaul and Anil Sancharia to the murder of Isaiah Henry.

The two men were jointly charged for the murder of Isaiah Henry and his cousin, Joel Henry. The matter related to the murder of Joel Henry is set to begin in August.

A third accused is also facing charges related to the murder of the two teens. However, that third accused was charged separately and is being tried separately.
