With close to six pounds of cocaine neatly packed in her hand bag, a 19-year old woman from the East Coast of Demerara, was held today at the Cheddi Jagan Airport after being found with the illegal substance.

The young woman was preparing to board a New York bound flight when the bust took place.  Her mother, who accompanied her to the airport, was also arrested along with a third person.

The cocaine was discovered in small packages that were stashed between two layers of material in the handbag.  Charges are likely to be filed before the end of this week.

Meanwhile, CANU officials are reminding the public that “irrespective of life’s challenges civilians must recognize that the narcotic trade must Never be an option. The narcotic trade is harmful to the traffickers, it’s users and everyone connected to them.”
