Education Ministry begins to gather info on number of vaccinated teachers

With the Education Ministry looking at a possible reopening of schools for face-to-face learning in September, the Chief Education Officer has written to all Regional Education Officers and the Principal Education Officer requesting information on the number of teachers who have been vaccinated.

In a memo seen by News Source, Chief Education Officer Marcel Hutson indicated that the Education Ministry is currently in the process of crafting a policy towards the reopening of schools.

He has requested information on the number of teachers who have received at least one dose of one of the COVID-19 vaccines. The Chief Education Officer also wants to know the potential student capacity of each school under covid-19 seating guidelines.

Headteachers are being asked to provide the information by noon tomorrow.

With schools closed for face-to-face learning for more than a year, the Education Minister has said the Ministry of Education will be guided by the Ministry of Health on the reopening of schools.

President Irfaan Ali on Monday encouraged teachers to get vaccinated, stating that the nation’s children should not be exposed to unvaccinated teachers.
