Ex-cop charged for providing false testimony to the Court in drug case

A Former police officer appeared in Georgetown Magistrates’ Court today and was charged with falsely giving evidence in a matter that was before the Weldaad Magistrates Court.

He was released on $50,000 bail and will make his next court appearance in the new month.

28-year-old Marlon Chatterpaul stood before the Chef Magistrate and was not required to plea to the charges.

The false witness charges against him were laid following another court matter that involved two men who were accused of narcotics possession.

The Court heard that it was in July 2016 during the Police case vs Victor Edwards and Kenshon Charles, that ex-policeman falsely provided evidence to the court with regards to the car in which the narcotics were found.

His statements in the court were found to be untrue following an investigation, and it is believed that may have triggered the dismissal of the charges against the two men.

He was investigated and charged following the dismissal of the matter.
