Exxon significantly reduces Oil production as new gas compressor problem emerges

A new problem with the recently installed gas compressor on the Liza Destiny Oil Production vessel has forced the ExxonMobil company to slash its oil production by 90,000 barrels of oil per day.

In a statement this evening, the company said the decision could potentially affect Guyana’s next oil lift which is due in a matter of days.

Exxon explained that while it was conducting the final testing phase of the reinstalled flash gas compressor and other components, the team encountered an additional problem with the discharge silencer.

Teams from Exxon, SBM Offshore services and the manufacturer of the compressor are onsite assessing the repairs with guidance from engineers in Europe and the US.

Exxon said as a result of the new problem, oil production was reduced to a minimum level to minimize flaring.

Government agencies have been notified of the new problem and are being briefed on the latest developments, the company assured.

The compressor was damaged back in January and resulted in the company having to temporarily increase gas-flaring above pilot levels to maintain safe operations. Subsequently, the company removed the faulty compressor and sent it for repairs in Germany.
