Fake Presidential License Plates land West Demerara Road Safety Assoc. President in Court

The 43-year-old man, Peter Katahan, who is also President of the West Demerara Road Safety Association appeared in Court today where he was charged with fraudulent imitation of identification mark, having an unregistered vehicle, having an unlicensed vehicle, having an uncertified vehicle and having an uninsured vehicle on the country's roadway.

The Bride and Groom may have gone on their honeymoon, but one of their guests landed himself in Court today facing several charges after he added fake license plates bearing the Presidential crown to his motorcar.

The Bushy Park,East Bank Essequibo businessman allegedly affixed two plastic crowns to his unregistered motor vehicle and reportedly used the vehicle to transport celebrants of a wedding in the area.

The 43-year-old man, Peter Katahan, who is also President of the West Demerara Road Safety Association appeared in Court today where he was charged with fraudulent imitation of identification mark, having an unregistered vehicle, having an unlicensed vehicle, having an uncertified vehicle and having an uninsured vehicle on the country’s roadway.

At the Vreed-en-hoop Magistrates’ Court today, Katahan pleaded not guilty to the offences and ws released on $20,000 bail on each charge, totaling $100,000.

He will appear in Court in August for the continuation of the matter.

The official vehicles of the President of Guyana are the only ones that use the Gold Cacique Crown on the license plates of the vehicle that is carrying the President.
