Family arrested after weapons bust at Corentyne home

The Guyana Police on Tuesday night announced the arrests of two pensioners, ages 72 and 76 along with their granddaughter and her reputed husband after a number of weapons were found at their Springlands, Corentyne home.

The police seized a 9mm pistol along with a magazine with four live rounds, a 12-gage shotgun, a 9mm power line airgun, and an outdoor bow with an arrow.

In another search at a house owned by the granddaughter’s reputed husband, a pistol cleaning kit and two holsters were found.

In a statement, the Police Force said the two pensioners were questioned and later released while the granddaughter and her reputed husband remain in custody.

The bust took place on Tuesday afternoon during a search of the elderly couple’s home which was triggered by a tip.

The elderly couple lives in the bottom flat of the house while the granddaughter and her reputed husband along with their five-year-old child live in the upper flat.

The Police Force said the search was conducted in the presence of all of the occupants of the home.

Investigators from the Springlands Police Station are leading the probe.
