Moments after the Ministry of Public Health through the Department of Public Information announced a 16th COVID-19 death this evening, the dead woman’s relatives expressed shock and said they are confused with the coronavirus being linked to the 76-year-old woman’s death.

The woman’s son, Lester Portsmouth told News Source that a few days ago his mother collapsed on the stairs of their home after returning from a visit with her doctor at a private hospital over her heart condition.

He said when she collapsed on the stairs, hitting her head, he took her to the Georgetown hospital’s emergency unit.

According to the son, an x-tray and a number of blood tests were done and his mother was given the all clear to go home.

However, on Sunday, she complained of pains to her head and the family decided to take her back to the Georgetown Hospital for additional checks.

The daughter explained that at the Georgetown Hospital she was with her mother at all times and additional blood tests were carried out in the Emergency room.

She said she was asked to give approval for “a special medication” to be administered to the elderly woman and after consulting with a sister abroad, she signed off on the permission slip.

to assist with her condition.

“I was told to leave the room as they administered the treatment and about an hour later while I was just outside the hospital compound, they called us in to say they had lost her, which was unbelievable since we were talking good good just before I left the room”, the daughter recounted.

The family said they were never told that a COVID-19 test would be done on their mother’s remains and they are even more concerned that the results of the test was first made known to the media.

According to the son, “no one contacted us and they have our numbers from when she was admitted. It was someone who told us check Facebook and it was there that we saw the information. We don’t know anything about her having COVID and they have not even reached out to us about testing us or anything and we were the ones with her all the time, so we are confused and we need answers”.

The son said he finds it difficult to believe that his mother’s death was related to COVID-19 since she was always at home and he ensure that the house was always properly sanitized.

The family’s concerns have been related to senior officials on the COVID-19 Task Force who have indicated that they will reach out to the Health Officials on the issue.
