Father admits to assisting prison escapees during Bartica stop

The father of one of the four Mazaruni Prison escapees has admitted to assisting the four men when they turned up at his Fourth Avenue, Bartica home.

The man, Ralph Jones, told Police investigators that he first received a phone call from his son Rayon Jones, at around 9 pm on Tuesday, which was the same day of the prison escape.

According to the Police, the man told investigators that in the early hours of Wednesday morning, his son and the other three prison escapees showed up at his Bartica home.

He admitted that he provided each of the escapees with a change of clothing and dumped the clothes that they changed behind his house.

The investigating team found a bag containing the clothes as they visited the man’s residence today. In addition to the dumped clothing, the investigators also found, pillows and pillowcasess, a bottle of red star rub, and other items.

A number of prison officers who were on duty during the escape are still being questioned about the incident. It is suspected that after the four men bolted from the prison on Tuesday, they stole a speed-boat and made their way to Bartica.

The authorities continue to ask for anyone who may know the whereabouts of the escapees, Imran Ramsaywack, Samuel Gouveia, Ryan Jones and Kenrick Lyte to make contact with the nearest police station or call 911.
