A 23-year-old female member of the Guyana Defence Force who was attached to the Band Corps, died early on Saturday morning after being hit down by a speeding car on Sheriff Street.
The young lady has been identified as Lashana Moore of Grove. She was reportedly crossing the street when a speeding taxi collided with her, leaving her broken body along the roadway.
The driver of the taxi never stopped. The young woman died on the spot.
The car was found abandoned in Campbell Street, a short distance away from the accident. The driver has since been arrested and he has been identified as Akeem Layne of Tucville.
The man has been described as a taxi driver. He is expected to face charges in the new week.
The dead GDF rank has been described as a “nice and decent” young woman by friends, who said she was very committed to her young daughter and may have just visited the daughter, when she was hit down.
