A 37-year-old female patient of the Georgetown Hospital jumped to her death on Friday evening from the fourth floor of the female medical ward.
The woman died instantly after she landed on the concrete yard below. She has been identified as Shaneza Farouk of West Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara.
Patients and nurses were left traumatized by the incident which occurred just before 9 pm. According to one nurse, the patients had already retired to bed, when the woman was noticed climbing through the window. By the time, nurses dashed to the area, she had already leaped to her death.
She was quickly rushed to the accident and emergency unit where doctors pronounced her dead. The woman was admitted to the Georgetown Hospital on Tuesday with Chronic Renal Failure. News Source understands that she had been having sleepless nights over the past two days and had been complaining about intense pain. Her condition was reportedly in an advanced stage and she was being closely monitored by doctors.
Her relatives were contacted and rushed to the hospital where they broke down in tears after learning of the woman’s death. A probe into the incident is expected to be launched.
