Fiery Berbice car crash kills two persons

Two persons died in a Wednesday afternoon accident in Berbice and at least five other persons were left badly injured.

Police Traffic Officer for B’ Division, Deputy Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud confirmed the deaths to News Source and revealed that at least five persons have been hospitalized with serious injuries.

He said an investigation has been launchd and information is already being gathered.

The identities of the two persons who died have not been confirmed, but according to eyewitnesses, the car that the two were in, burst into flames after slamming head on into another car.

The fire prevented onlookers from rendering assistance as many persons feared that there would have been more explosions.

The accident took place just around 2 o’ clock this afternoon on the West Coast of Berbice in the Experiment Road area. The two persons who died are believed to be from a Berbice village and may have been heading home at the time of the tragedy.

From all appearances, speed was a factor in the accident.

Just this week the Guyana Police Force reported that speeding is the greatest cause for road accidents in the country. Over 100 persons have lost their lives on the country’s roadways for this year.
