Final Draft of Vote Recount Plan expected Wednesday

The Chief Elections Officer is now expected to present the revised vote recount plan on Wednesday when the Commission meets again.

At today’s meeting, the Elections Officer sought a number of clarifications from the Commissioners.

The Opposition nominated Commissioners presented a recount plan of their own last week. That plan caters for more workstations for the recount and a shorter period.

Commissioner Sase Gunraj said he is disappointed that a final draft of the Secretariat’s plan was not presented today.

He stated that information was provided today on the clarifications sought and he is hoping that tomorrow’s meeting will see that final draft presented and also a site visit to the Arthur Chung Convention Centre which will serve as the venue for the recount.

Government nominated Commissioner Vincent Alexander said he was also expecting a final draft of the recount document to be presented today. He said the Secretariat sought clarification on some issues that he thought were previously addressed.

Alexander said there is also the issue of some Commissioners raising issues that had already been addressed by the Commission itself. He said nothing is absolute so far as the Commission awaits the draft recount plan.

The Commission is set to meet tomorrow morning at 10:30 and also visit the site for the recount.

It was also revealed today that the Commission has formally written to CARICOM for it to send a team to be part of the recount process which will be supervised by GECOM.

Today marked six weeks since the 2nd March elections.
