Five in custody over gruesome murder of BV woman

Police investigators have taken five men into custody over the gruesome murder of 18-year-old Ranella Benfield, of 99 Canterbury Walk, Beterverwagting, ECD.

The young woman who worked at Qualfon as a receptionist was last seen alive on Saturday.  Her body was discovered early this morning in a cemetery in the BV area with her face completely ripped off.

Shocked relatives said when the young woman did not return home over the weekend, they thought that she was working extra hours and did not become too worried.

The discovery of the body has left the East Coast community in disbelief as persons try to figure out exactly what may have taken place.

When her body was found, the blue jeans she was wearing was pulled down to just above her knees and her two hands were in closed position close to her face.

A post-mortem examination is expected to look at whether the young woman was sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Police investigators believe that might very well be the case. The probe continues.
