Five new cases of COVID-19; Ten persons in COVID-ICU

The Ministry of Public Health on Monday revealed that another five persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Guyana while one more person has made a full recovery.

Guyana currently has 142 active cases of the virus with 10 of those persons in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit at the Georgetown Hospital. That is the largest number of persons to be admitted to the COVID-19 unit since the first case of the virus was recorded in Guyana back in March.

The cases have been climbing steadily over the past two weeks with 22 new cases being recorded in the past three days alone.

With the majority of the current cases in Regions One and Seven, the Public Health Ministry is moving into those communities to get more tests done and raise more awareness.

Several communities in Region One including Moruca are now under a complete lockdown for the next month.

As part of that measure, there will be nothing allowed to enter or leave the community for the next four weeks.  Additionally, mass testing will be done as the authorities worry that there might be additional persons with the virus.
