Footballer remanded to jail over unlicensed firearm charge

A young footballer found himself facing the Court today on possession of unlicensed firearm charge. He has since been remanded to jail.

The accused, Richie Richards who plays competitive football for the Guyana Police Force, didn’t have the Force on his side as he appeared before the Chief Magistrate and denied the gun possession charge.

He is accused of being in possession of one .22 pistol without being the holder of a firearm license.

The footballer was walking in the Campbellville area when he was stopped by a Police patrol and a search was executed.

The gun was allegedly found in one of the pockets of his pants and the Police said he made it clear that he is not the holder of a firearm license.

He was immediately arrested and charged.  The accused has been remanded to jail until later this month when the matter will come up again for hearing.
