Former Guyana National Basketball Star found dead at workplace in TT

The basketball fraternity in Guyana was plunged into mourning today after receiving news of the death of former National Basketball player, Andrew Ifill, who was known on the basketball court as “Mr. Dunk”.

Ifill was discovered unresponsive at his workplace in South Trinidad last night.  There were no marks of violence on the body and it is suspected that he died from natural causes.

According to reports from Trinidad, he worked at an auto sales company and was last heard from when a co-worker called out to him to let him know that she had arrived for a shift change.

Ifill shouted that he was in the washroom and would be out in a few minutes. Those minutes turned into more than an hour and the co-worker became concerned when he never opened up the building to let her in.

The owner of the business was summoned to open up the building and it was then that Ifill’s motionless body was discovered facedown close to the washroom area.

Emergency services were summoned and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Andrew Ifill played club and national basketball in Guyana and also represented Guyana at a number of Caribbean championships.

He eventually migrated to Trinidad and Tobago where he worked and played non-competitive basketball and assisted with coaching.

He was 40-years-old.
